The Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) Refuse Sack Accreditation Scheme ensures that, when a customer specifies and purchases a refuse sack, they receive what was ordered and paid for i.e. that the specification and performance of the sack was as ordered.

The scheme has arisen because of confusion over measurements and acceptable tolerances, combined sometimes with potentially misleading practices, which has made it difficult for customers to accurately “benchmark” potential suppliers and make confident purchasing decisions on a ‘like for like' basis.

It ensures clear and accurate description and labelling of product and has created a simple but effective measure of a refuse sack's strength to ensure that it is ‘fit for purpose'.  This is achieved with a scale that refers to a bag's maximum load weight and avoids reference to thickness which can be misleading and cause confusion.

Only manufacturers who comply with the scheme's standards can use the CHSA Refuse Sack Accreditation logo on product labelling.  Independent auditing takes place to ensure compliance and is underpinned by a disciplinary process for non-compliance.
